Mitch Pearlstein, Ph.D.
Founder and President

As Founder and President of Center of the American Experiment, Mitch Pearlstein researches, writes, and speaks about a wide range of topics including, education, families, race, health care, religious freedom, national security, and governmental and economic issues more generally.  He is also editor of American Experiment Quarterly, American Experiment’s flagship publication.  Before his 1990 return to the Twin Cities, Dr. Pearlstein served for more than two years in the U.S. Department of Education, during the Reagan and (first) Bush administrations, where he held three positions, including Director of Outreach for the Office of Educational Research and Improvement.  Just prior to his federal service in Washington, Dr. Pearlstein spent four years as an editorial writer and columnist for the St. Paul Pioneer Press, where he focused on foreign and national affairs.

Scott Johnson
American Experiment Board Member and
Cofounder and Contributor to Power Line Blog


Scott Johnson is the cofounder and contributor to the Power Line blog, named Time Magazine's first-ever blog of the year in connection with its role in the exposure of Rathergate in 2004.  For the past 15 years, Scott has written columns, articles and essays on public policy issues including welfare, crime, race, income inequality and income taxes with his Power Line colleague John Hinderaker.  Scott is a full-time practicing attorney, an adjunct faculty member of the University of St. Thomas Law School, a fellow of the Claremont Institute for the Study of Statesmanship and a contributor to the Daily Standard.  He is available to talk about Power Line and the new media as well as the public policy issues he has written about over the years.

Britt Haugland
Director of FACT

As the Director of FACT: Foundations for Active Conservative Thinking, Britt Haugland leads American Experiment’s student outreach program, which is designed to give Minnesota students the conservative and free-market ideas they need to challenge liberal orthodoxy on campus.  She is available to speak about FACT and liberal bias on college campuses.

John H. Hinderaker
Cofounder and Contributor to Power Line Blog

John Hinderaker is the cofounder and contributor to the Power Line blog, named Time Magazine's first-ever “Blog of the Year” in connection with its role in the exposure of Rathergate in 2004.

For thirty years John, a graduate of Harvard Law School, has had a broad-based and varied commercial litigation practice. A veteran of close to 100 jury trials, he has appeared in courts in sixteen states. John has been recognized by Minnesota’s Journal of Law and Politics as one of the state’s top commercial litigators. In recognition of his achievements the Journal of Law and Politics recently named John Minnesota’s "Super Lawyer of the Year" for 2005.   He is available to talk about Power Line and the new media, as well as the public policy issues he has written about over the years.
