Politicization of Edina Schools Continues to Receive National Attention

Another red-hot article by Katherine Kersten on the barrage of social justice in Edina Public Schools continues to spark a national discussion. Her latest piece titled “Inside a Public School Social Justice Factory” was recently published by the Weekly Standard, as my colleague Tom Steward summarizes here.

Numerous online news outlets have shared the article since its publication and it has received significant attention on Twitter, as well. Tucker Carlson—a “Higher Ed Hero” and host of Tucker Carlson Tonight—tweeted out the article and elicited over 5,000 “likes,” nearly 3,000 retweets, and more than 700 comments.

What’s happening in Edina is not an isolated incident, and many of the Twitter comments included other examples of political orthodoxies impeding valuable—and limited—class time.

The shift in prioritizing ideology over academic excellence threatens the success of students. But the fight for students and their right to a solid education is far from over, and the Center will continue pushing back against the “ideological hijacking of legitimate academic instruction in the name of racial equity,” as my colleague Katherine Kersten states in her article.

Racial identity politics have seeped into higher ed instruction, as well, and have been challenged and exposed most notably by Tucker Carlson.

The Center will host Tucker Carlson for its 2018 Annual Dinner on Saturday evening, April 7 at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

Join us for dinner with Tucker and his witty, informative, and frank take on the future of the conservative movement and all things political.

Tickets are available and can be purchased here or by calling 612-584-4557. If you are a student interested in attending, call and ask about our student sponsorships!

Please join Center of the American Experiment at the 2018 Fall Briefing featuring Alan M. Dershowitz as he shares his thoughtful analysis of freedom of speech in an era of increasingly divisive and hostile political rhetoric. Dershowitz is one of the nation’s “most distinguished defenders of individual rights.” A graduate of Brooklyn College and Yale Law School, he joined the Harvard Law School faculty at age 25, the youngest in the school’s history, and became an Emeritus professor after 50 years of teaching and 10,000 students. Dershowitz has published more than 1,000 articles and authored 35 fiction and non-fiction works,…
