MN teachers’ resignation window closes Sept. 30

Educators, we hope the new school year is going smoothly so far! Now that your classrooms are set up and lesson planning is underway, it’s time to think about your options regarding union membership.

If you already created your opt-out letter, you can submit it today (deadline: Sept. 30!). Please carefully follow the step-by-step submission guide that popped up after you created your letter to ensure the union honors your resignation. If you have any problems, please reach out to Educated Teachers MN.

What Educated Teachers MN is hearing from teachers:

“I decided to opt-out, and I stand by my choice. I have protection from a non-union education association that doesn’t get caught up in politics, and I am saving money that I can then invest into my classroom and students. If the union starts representing my needs, I can always rejoin.”

—Anne, 5th grade teacher

“I’m really happy with my decision to opt-out of the union. I have double the protection than I did with the union through a non-union teachers’ association that better represents my values. I didn’t lose any friends, and nothing has changed for me professionally.”

—Linda, high school science teacher

“I decided to opt out and I am so glad that I don’t have to pay in and support so many things unrelated to education. I have not had any repercussions due to my withdrawal from the union.”

—Mark, 6th grade teacher
