This mostly private effort to help the homeless should be supported

A Star Tribune cover story, “Walz nets nearly $5M to help the homeless,” brought some encouraging news last Friday.  Gov. Tim Walz spearheaded a new push to raise funds for Minnesota’s homeless population from mostly corporate and philanthropic organizations, and has raised almost $5 million so far.  Even though $1 million for this fund came from the Met Council, this promising effort has been mostly private, and stands in very refreshing contrast to nearly constant demands for more government funding for a litany of social ills.

Kudos to Gov. Walz and everyone behind the Minnesota Homeless Fund, which is being managed by Sue Haigh at the St. Paul & Minnesota Foundation.  Private charitable initiatives like this one should be encouraged and supported so I hope you will consider putting some of your treasure toward this Minnesota need.

Unfortunately, there is no easy online way to contribute at this time, so to help please contact the St. Paul & Minnesota Foundation at 651-224-5463, or send a check designated for the Minnesota Homeless Fund to:
