Darren Nelson is a Policy Fellow at Center of the American Experiment, where he focuses on energy and natural resources.
Darren is a graduate of the Australian National University in Canberra, where he earned a Bachelor of Economics (with honours) majoring in economic thought and history, as well as of the University of New South Wales in Sydney, where he earned a Master of Commerce (with distinction) majoring in business and competition law.
Darren is also a board member for the Market Distortions Performance Index, and a longtime economic policy advisor to the Heartland Institute. He was previously the chief economist of LibertyWorks Australia, as well as an economic policy advisor to Australian Senator Malcom Roberts.
Darren is an expert in fiscal, monetary and regulatory policies, as well as competition, energy and infrastructure policies. He has been published hundreds of times, including for Concurrences and the Daily Caller, as well as making dozens of appearances, including on One America News and Sky News Australia.
Darren is the author of the book Ten Principles of Regulation and Reform, plus a chapter in the book Why Competition. He is the first in the world to apply the Australian approach to federal and state regulation of public utility costs, of CPI Minus X (CPI-X), to cutting and controlling American federal and state budget spending.
