george-parkerGeorge Parker serves as a Senior Fellow for StudentsFirst Institute and as a Senior Advisor for the newly formed educational consulting group PurposedSpaced.  George grew up in a rural farm community near Kinston, North Carolina where he learned at an early age the value of a great education.  George is a certified mathematics teacher with 30 years of experience teaching high school and middle school math in low performing schools in Washington, D.C. public school system.  Today, he considers the poor quality of education that is being provided in our public schools to be the number one civil rights issue of the day.

George is the former president of the Washington, D.C. Teacher’s Union, elected to the post in 2005.  He also frequently serves as an expert witness in support of legislation aimed to improve teacher quality, elevate the teaching profession and promote school choice.
