Child Care Welfare Fraud: It’s Not Just Minnesota

Massive fraud in welfare programs intended to subsidize child care for low-income families has been a huge news story in Minnesota, where the scandal has centered on day care operations run by Somali immigrants. It appears that something similar is going on in Nebraska: The heads of four child care centers in Lincoln and Omaha have been indicted on a scheme involving hundreds of thousands of dollars in subsidies. St Paul Schools hire principal with an interesting resume: Misused State Funds, Drunk Driving Arrests

Superintendent Joe Gothard said in an interview that he was unaware of the audit when he picked Dutrieuille as principal of the grades K-8 Hazel Park Preparatory Academy on the East Side. Gothard said he’s since reviewed the audit and has no concerns. Besides the questionable spending, Dutrieuille faced drunk driving charges four times between 1993 and 1999. Fox 9 News and other media reported a raid on the Baraka Child Care Center in Minneapolis yesterday. Attorney General’s Office Argues DFL Legislature Purposely Made It Harder for PCAs to Decertify the SEIU

The AG’s office argued in Ramsey County Court today that the 2013 Legislature wanted to be sure that, once the PCAs had been unionized as "state employees", it would be very difficult for PCAs to ever get a contact list for a decertification effort. 7 Women, $7 Million: MN’s Latest Medicaid Fraud

An alleged ringleader and her six recruits have been charged with supposedly bamboozling $7.7 million from Medicaid. According to the Star Tribune, the Minnesota Attorney General’s office charged seven women for allegedly stealing the money while running personal care attendant (PCA) agencies in Hennepin County. The PCA program is meant to empower disabled Minnesotans to receive care at home and stay out of institutions by hiring help. It is disheartening a group of women would abuse this wonderful program and undermine personal care assistance....
