Legal Loophole in CCAP allows child care centers to bill for services they do not provide

Perhaps by coming together on the CCAP fraud issue, lawmakers can begin to plan for a complete overhaul of Minnesota’s generous and infamous welfare system. What other programs are being ripped off? Welfare fraud is nothing new in Minnesota and began long before Somali refugees started arriving in the 1990’s. Any major overhaul will require the support of Governor Walz to be successful. Perhaps the federal government could get the governor’s attention....

Send Illegal Aliens to Sanctuary Cities? Be careful what you wish for.

Given Minnesota’s leadership in the metro and the governor’s mansion, if you are cheering on the idea of punishing sanctuary cities, be careful what you wish for. Minnesota’s already overburdened welfare state would grow if the administration carried out this policy. And imagine, given Minnesota’s free-for-all at the voting booth and loose absentee ballot laws, how voter fraud could change the state forever....

Inspector General at DHS Placed on Paid Leave Following Report of Welfare Fraud

MPR News reported that Carolyn Ham, the Inspector General (IG) at the Department of Human Services (DHS), has been placed on paid leave pending the outcome of a “probe.” The Inspector General’s office is in charge of protecting welfare programs from illegal activity and fraud. Last week the Office of Legislative Auditor (OLA), released a report that found a “serious rift” between the IG’s office and the DHS investigators tasked with investigating fraud. The report also noted that the IG’s office reported directly to the politically appointed commissioner at DHS and thus, had no independent authority. (The OLA, in a letter to...

Child Care Welfare Fraud: It’s Not Just Minnesota

Massive fraud in welfare programs intended to subsidize child care for low-income families has been a huge news story in Minnesota, where the scandal has centered on day care operations run by Somali immigrants. It appears that something similar is going on in Nebraska: The heads of four child care centers in Lincoln and Omaha have been indicted on a scheme involving hundreds of thousands of dollars in subsidies. Two men — Seth Mock, the owner of Mock's Loving Life Learning Center in Omaha, and Abdikadir Miji, the owner of Miji Child Care Center in Omaha — are charged with money laundering...

St Paul Schools hire principal with an interesting resume: Misused State Funds, Drunk Driving Arrests

Superintendent Joe Gothard said in an interview that he was unaware of the audit when he picked Dutrieuille as principal of the grades K-8 Hazel Park Preparatory Academy on the East Side. Gothard said he’s since reviewed the audit and has no concerns. Besides the questionable spending, Dutrieuille faced drunk driving charges four times between 1993 and 1999. Gothard said he was unaware of Dutrieuille’s drunk driving arrests....

Another child care center raided for Medicaid fraud

Fox 9 News and other media reported a raid on the Baraka Child Care Center in Minneapolis yesterday. State and federal agents participated, including the Secret Service, and while we do not have the underlying documents yet, Fox is standing by its allegations that "government sources" put the fraud at $100 million....

Welfare Fraud Supporting Extravagant Lifestyles and Terror Abroad: MN Senate Calls for Investigation

This investigation, focused primarily on welfare payments for child care, is just getting started. A former DHS investigator says the PCA Medicaid program fraud is much worse. The allegation is that as much as $100 million in welfare cash has left via MSP. Unlimited amounts of cash can be taken out of the U.S. as long as a form is submitted to customs. ...

Kris Greene goes to Washington to Defend Medicaid Against Union Dues-Skimming: Crockett in NRO

Kris and I indulged by splitting a HUGE apple fritter. Believe me, we walked it off. We wish all our PCAs from Minnesota could have been there. We will keep you posted on the legislation as it progresses. And also the  union decertification led by Kris and other PCAs with help from attorney Doug Seaton in Minnesota. We need both to succeed. ...
