18th guilty plea filed in Feeding Our Future case

The most recent defendant charged in the case — Hoda Abdi (No. 70, in the official numbering) — was in federal court in Minneapolis this afternoon to file guilty plea No. 18.

I covered her indictment back in February. The U.S. Attorney for Minnesota issued a press release on his latest conviction in the case.

Her corner of the scandal involved $3 million and centered around her Burnsville grocery store. Her indictment lists at least five co-conspirators, only one of which has been indicted (he also pled guilty). Abdi’s personal share of the take from the fraud is estimated at just under $1.3 million.

As for the rest of the case, a major trial will get underway on Monday, April 22, involving eight (8) defendants in the case (Nos. 15 to 22), all unrelated to Abdi. The trial is expected to last a month.
