Poll: Teachers back in their classrooms are comfortable working in-person

A February poll conducted by the national teachers’ union American Federation of Teachers (AFT) found that most union member teachers and school staff who are back working in-person feel comfortable.

Sixty-one percent of teachers and sixty-nine percent of paraprofessionals/school-related personnel (PSRPs) whose schools are operating in-person instruction answered “yes” when asked, “Have you felt comfortable returning to work in-person so far this school year?”

Teachers in schools still operating remotely said they weren’t comfortable returning to work in-person during the spring semester (55 percent to 40 percent), with PSRPs working remotely slightly more comfortable with going back to in-person (48 percent to 47 percent).

Six hundred K-12 union member teachers and 200 union member PSRPs participated in the survey from February 4-6, 2021.
