About $7k for Kids
What is an Education Savings Account?
Education Savings Accounts provide Minnesota families with up to $7,000 per student each year to support and customize their child’s unique educational needs — from tuition at a nonpublic school and tutoring to educational therapy and services.
Do Education Savings Accounts have popular support?
- Fifty-four percent of respondents to the February Thinking Minnesota Poll supported Education Savings Accounts.
- ESAs are already established in 19 states.
Why do we need Education Savings Accounts?
Because over half of Minnesota students can’t read or do math at grade level. The status quo is unacceptable!
Why should homeschoolers support Education Savings Accounts?
- Despite fears, according to a national study by Johns Hopkins School of Education, no state has increased homeschool regulations after passing a school choice program, and, overall, homeschool regulation has decreased over time.
- A legislature and governor willing to implement Education Savings Accounts in Minnesota will naturally be favorable to homeschooling. A legislature and governor hostile to school choice (like the current one) is already hostile to home education.
- All school choice programs are voluntary, meaning homeschool families will not be compelled to participate.
Finally, a state program that directs $7,000 to families to pay for the best education they choose!
Minnesota used to promise all children a quality education that sets them up for college, a career, and life. But that promise has been broken. Half of our kids can’t read or do math at grade level! With parental choice through Education Savings Accounts (ESAs), Minnesota families can use the basic funds allocated by the state to customize their child’s unique educational needs — from tuition at private schools to homeschooling.
How would $7,000 per year change your child’s education experience?
HEAR FROM REAL MINNESOTA PARENTS:
Moshe hopes the values his children are learning in school will stay with them throughout life and get passed down to the next generation. An education savings account would provide breathing space for Moshe and his wife as they strive to be the best parents they can be.
Kofi was sometimes frustrated by how the public schools in Minnesota treated her boys, especially when it came to race. She has high expectations for her children and expects those expectations to be reinforced during the school day by teachers and staff.
Faith is very important to Miryam’s family. That’s why she chose a school that reflects the Jewish values her kids are learning at home. Hear what a $7,000 Education Savings Account would mean to Miryam and her four kids.
The time has come for real school choice!
MORE INFORMATION:
Minnesota once led the nation in education reform. We adopted education tax credits in the early 1990s and were the first state to try charter schools and open enrollment. But we have lost our leadership position as other states have adopted school choice programs, leapfrogging us in academic achievement.
As measured by the 2025 Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCAs), 50.5 percent of tested students do not meet grade-level reading standards and 55 percent do not meet grade-level math standards.

ESAs will give Minnesota families the freedom and resources to access a learning environment that matches their education goals and values.
