MN GOP adds repeal of nuclear ban to priority list

Yesterday, the Republican leadership of the Minnesota House of Representatives held a press conference to present their priorities for the 2025 legislative session.

As it currently stands, Republicans hold a one seat (67-66) majority in the chamber, pending the future results of one (or more) special election(s). The GOP majority agenda includes fighting fraud, cutting taxes, and other important items. As presented, the agenda included a very short list of specific items.

At the 9:17 mark of the video, incoming Speaker Lisa Demuth (R-13A, Cold Spring) adds the repeal of the law (M.S. Chapter 216B.243 subd. 3b.) which bans the construction of new nuclear power plants in the state.

The state Chamber of Commerce has issued their priorities for the 2025 session. Among the Chamber’s energy items is a call to repeal the moratorium on new nuclear plants.

It’s encouraging to see this energy item included among the top priorities at the legislature this year. We will be tracking its progress throughout the session as it (hopefully) makes its way to the desk of Gov. Tim Walz.
