After their victory in court, will the 66 DFLers join the 67 Republicans at the House today?
On Friday, Minnesota’s Supreme Court ruled in favor of the DFL’s position that a quorum in the state House requires 68 Representatives to be present. What happens now?
The House is, I gather, due to convene at 3:30pm. The Supreme Court tells us that if 68 Representatives aren’t present, the House has no quorum and can conduct no business.
All the indications are that all 67 duly elected Republicans will be present. The big question is whether any or all of the 66 DFLers will bother to put in an appearance today. If they do not, the Supreme Court tells us, there is no quorum and the House can conduct no business.
Meetings of the Fraud Prevention and State Agency Oversight Policy, Ways and Means, Agriculture Finance and Policy, Elections Finance and Government Operations, Health Finance and Policy, and Transportation Finance and Policy committees were due to be held today. All have been canceled. No such meetings can be held, the Supreme Court tells us, until the DFL Representatives emerge from their basements and appear at the Capitol.
Will today be the day?
