U.S. Attorney charges 3 in crime spree

In a press release issued today, the Acting U.S. Attorney for Minnesota, Joe Thompson, announced:

Three Defendants Federally Indicted for Armed Robbery Spree That Shut Down Fairgrounds of the Minnesota State Fair

To be clear, the events happened on August 17, a week before the State Fair officially kicked off for the year. But the lead defendant in the case, Dylan Jungworth, age 21, (pictured above) remained a wanted fugitive for another three days after the incident.

Fox 9 TV reported at the time:

Ramsey County prosecutors filed charges against Jungwirth, 18-year-old Kemonie Hurd, and 21-year-old Kenneth Spight for first-degree aggravated robbery.

Kenneth Spight:

The Sunday morning crime spree included three (3) gas station robberies, a stolen car, a police chase (speed 107 MPH), a crash, and then an escape on foot, according to the press release and media accounts. They allegedly hit two BPs and a Speedway.

During the time the suspects were on the lam, residents near the State Fairgrounds received text alerts.

The federal indictment against the three includes three robbery counts. At the state level, the three are collectively facing 8 felony counts.

According to state court records, Spight is also facing a felony gun case, dating back to March. Jungwirth is awaiting sentencing on an unrelated felony and has two prior felony convictions.

No date has been set yet for their next federal court appearance.
