American Experiment presents analysis of offender outcomes to Senate Judiciary Committee
Center of the American Experiment’s Public Safety Policy Fellow David Zimmer testified before the Minnesota Senate’s Judiciary and Public Safety Committee yesterday.
Zimmer presented the findings of his 2024 analysis which compared the criminal offender outcomes between black and white serious crime offenders in Minnesota. The analysis dispels the narrative that Minnesota’s criminal justice system is creating racial disparities.
The information shared will be helpful as our lawmakers debate criminal justice policy that has too frequently failed to create a more consequential criminal justice system.
It is unfortunate that despite the unique and valuable information shared, several DFL Senators were clearly more interested in attempting to discredit the information shared than in discussing the information as a way to improve the effectiveness of our criminal justice system.
Zimmer noted in testimony that “it’s impossible to fix a problem if we are unable to acknowledge the problem exists.”
