Can you guess Minnesota’s most popular Halloween candies?

Today is the one day of the year when I happily indulge in several pieces of chocolate and sour pieces of candy. (The other times I do so guiltily.) But I was surprised to read that my Halloween candy go-tos aren’t the top picks in Minnesota.

According to the candy experts at CandyStore.com, Minnesotans’ favorite Halloween candy is Skittles, with over 190,800 pounds sold, followed by Tootsie Pops (178,000 pounds) and Candy Corn (120,938 pounds). Check out other states’ most popular choices by clicking on the map below.

Despite COVID-19, U.S. sales of Halloween sugary essentials are up 13 percent over last year in the month ending Sept. 6, according to data from the market research firm IRI. “That’s a bigger jump than the usual single-digit increases,” reports the Associated Press. “Sales of Halloween chocolate alone are up 25%.”

Halloween is the biggest holiday of the year for candy makers, continues AP, followed closely by Christmas and Easter.
