Derrick John Thompson is still in custody

According to the Hennepin County jail roster, Thompson remains in county custody six weeks after the horrific Minneapolis car crash in which five young women were killed.

Since our last update on his case, a month ago, the hold placed by California has officially appeared in his record, in addition to the separate hold placed earlier by the MN Department of Corrections.

Even though Thompson is eligible for release on a $1 million bail/bond, it doesn’t appear that he’ll be out anytime soon. A July 21 bail hearing was postponed. The next hearing date appears to be in mid-September.

There have been no developments in the related Federal case against Thompson arising from the same incident.

Quintin Leon Hudson is also still behind bars. His crash earlier in July (in Robbinsdale) killed a young mother and seriously injured her husband. Hudson is eligible for a mere $300,000 bail/bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for August 8. The $300,000 amount is down from the original $500,000 requested.

Both cases share a number of similarities, and both have vanished from the headline. We’ll continue to monitor these cases.
