CENTER OF THE AMERICAN EXPERIMENT LAUNCHES GREAT JOBS WITHOUT A FOUR-YEAR DEGREE What It Means for Students, Parents and Employers

black and white

PLEASE JOIN NICHOLAS EBERSTADT Author of the Acclaimed New Book Men Without Work: America’s Invisible Crisis – As He Helps Kick Off American Experiment’s New Multi-Year Project.

American colleges and universities are the envy of the world. Still, many young people really don’t want to spend a minimum of four years in one of them, yet mistakenly believe that doing so is their only route to good-paying jobs. Often feeling pressured to enroll despite their doubts, they frequently wind up dropping out, jobless, and in debt. This powerful cultural bias in favor of four-year degrees is unfulfilling and expensive, not just for countless students and their families, but also for large numbers of Minnesota businesses having difficulty finding highly skilled employees, especially in technical fields.

Overlooked Educational Routes to Great Careers will energetically make the case for underappreciated and insufficiently tapped educational options throughout Minnesota such as apprenticeships, associate’s degrees, occupational certificates, joint high school-community college programs, job training in the military and more.

Nicholas Eberstadt holds the Henry Wendt Chair in Political Economy at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, where he researches and writes extensively on demographics and economic development.
