Feeding Our Future: conviction #68

Fahima Mahamud, age 50, defendant No. 79 in the free-food fraud scandal, pled guilty to two fraud counts this morning at the federal courthouse in downtown Minneapolis. Your correspondent was there. A court-appointed, taxpayer-paid Somali-language interpreter was on standby during the hearing, but not needed, in the end.

She is facing a prison sentence of between 3 and 7 years, She owes restitution of $5,479,929. You may recall Mahamud’s Future Leaders Early Learning Center was featured in Nick Shirley’s famous video. Mahamud pled guilty to an $850,000 food fraud through Feeding Our Future and a multi-million dollar childcare fraud.

She became the 68th person to be convicted in the case, either through guilty plea or courtroom trial.

The feds announced a $150,000 reward for international fugitive from justice Fahad Nur. He is defendant No. 32, associated with the Haji Kitchen group of Feeding Our Future defendants. His company, The Produce, has also been linked to another free-food nonprofit, Youth Leadership Academy, d/b/a Gar Gaar Family Services.
