Japan: “The government will make maximum use of nuclear power to ensure supplies of electricity.”
Mentioning the restart of nuclear power plants (NPPs), the prime minister said, “The government will steadily speed up safety examinations on the premise of ensured safety under the new regulatory standards.”
Due to the scorching heat throughout Japan, Prime Minister Kishida said that there were serious concerns about heat stroke. He called on the public to be realistic and use air conditioning wisely as necessary, rather than go to dangerous lengths to conserve energy.
The Japanese government issued a power shortage warning for four days from June 27 in the service area of the Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO), and called for nationwide power-conserving actions starting on July 1, the first time it had done so since the 2011-15 period in the wake of the giant earthquake of March 2011.
