‘Minnesota dad’ indicted for assaulting federal officer

Following that Tuesday morning incident in Bloomington, a federal grand jury has formally indicted Roberto Carlos Munoz-Guatemala with one count of assaulting a federal officer:

Presumably, the “deadly weapon” was Munoz’s Nissan Altima that he used to flee from the FBI. Munoz, from Mexico, is here in America illegally and is a convicted sex felon. Federal officers came to detain Munoz for the purpose of his deportation, when he fled a traffic stop.

Munoz is due back in federal court in St. Paul on June 24 for a formal detention hearing on the assault charge. He is being held in federal lockup in Sherburne County.

Unlike “Maryland Man” Kilmar Abrego Garcia, Munoz-Guatemala is not getting the kid-glove treatment from local media. A sampling of headlines:

Of course, the incident is national news:

What’s the difference in this case? Is it the nature of his crimes? Is it the last name?
