Minnesota Man of the Week
Kevin Contreras-Contreras of Mexico is our Minnesota Man of the Week. He wins the Weekly honors on account of the utterly mundane nature of his case. It shows the system working exactly as it should.
Prosecutors document that Contreras was previously deported to Mexico in July 2021 from Texas. On July 29, 2025, Contreras was picked up by the local cops in Renville County. It was the usual story: no license or registration, fake ID, an open bottle, fleeing the cops.
What was unusual is that on July 31, Contreras was handed over to ICE by the Reville County authorities. No drama, just an orderly transfer between cooperating law enforcement agencies.
Two weeks later, on August 13, Contreras was charged in federal court with the felony of re-entry by a previously deported illegal alien.
These cases are simplicity itself:
- Was he previously deported? Check
- Is he back in the U.S.? Check
- Does he have permission to be here? No
Then he has to go back. It doesn’t take months and months of due process to answer three simple questions.
Contreras has waived his right to a grand jury indictment and has agreed to plead guilty to the illegal immigration felony.
He is due in court later this morning. His stay in custody before his return to Mexico will be measured in weeks, not months.
For this reason, he is our man of the week.
Adios, Kevin!
