Only 1 out of 3 Americans believe K-12 education is heading in the right direction

Over 60 percent of Americans believe K-12 education is on the wrong track, according to EdChoice’s 2022 Schooling in America survey. That is nearly an 8-point increase from 2021 results.

Interestingly, while parents are also pessimistic about the direction of K-12 education — just under half (47.7 percent) believe it is heading in the right direction — they are slightly more optimistic than they were in 2021.

When polled on their children’s schooling experiences, public district school parents are less satisfied with their children’s schooling experiences compared to public charter school parents and private school parents.

The annual poll was conducted by EdChoice and Braun Research April 7-May 16, 2022 and surveyed the opinions of the American public (N=1,200) and school parents (N=1,200) to gauge their opinions on a variety of K-12 education topics.
