Sentencing Guidelines Public Hearing – a chance to voice your position

If criminal justice system accountability is important to you, consider letting the Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines Commission (MSGC) know your position at a Public Hearing on 12/15/22 at 1 pm.

The MSGC is holding the Public Hearing at the State Capital.  The topics being discussed are:

A. Changes to the Calculation of the Custody Status Point (this has been a matter of debate for nearly 2 years, and the issue has become rather complicated – read the current 8-page proposal attached below)

B. Modifications Related to Sex Trafficking

C. Technical Modifications

Each issue is described in detail in the announcement of the Public Hearing found here.  Instructions on how to register and/or attend the hearing remotely are also part of the announcement.

The (MSGC) consists of 11 appointed members that establish public policy related to our state’s criminal sentencing practices.

We have previously provided our readers with valuable information about the MSGC which can be found here.

If you are concerned with the direction crime and our criminal justice system have been heading in recent years, it is important you make your concerns heard.  We urge you to consider attending the public hearing or writing a letter to the MSGC urging the commission to take every opportunity to strengthen rather than weaken our sentencing policy.
