How the Fires Affected Air Quality in Minneapolis

The killing of George Floyd by a former Minneapolis police officer sparked massive, peaceful demonstrations where people aired legitimate grievances about the use of force by officers. It also resulted in riots, looting, and arson. The fires that were set in the wake of the killing destroyed numerous businesses, including many of the businesses I used to frequent when I lived in the Longfellow neighborhood in Minneapolis. They also caused a significant spike in air pollution in the area. A website called PurpleAir shows air monitoring data for several stations throughout the City of Minneapolis. Wind Turbine Owned by Apex Clean Energy Catches Fire in Texas

On March 8th, a wind turbine owned by Apex Clean Energy caught fire in South Texas. Many people don't realize this, but wind turbines require oil to operate. Oil, which is often demonized by wind-energy advocates, is used to reduce friction in the wind turbine. It also keeps the gearbox clean and protects metals surfaces from corrosion, according to Wind Power Engineering. Oil is also flammable. According to an article in a South Texas newspaper: It was a normal lazy Sunday before area fire crews got a call that a wind turbine was on fire on County Road 3683, in between Taft...

Connexus Energy Becomes Nation’s First Electric Co-Op to Bilk Its Members With Solar Plus Storage, Hooray!

Connexus Energy has become the first electric co-op in the country to bilk its 130,000 owner-members by forcing them to pay $31 million in additional costs for unneeded solar plus battery storage. Hooray! I've written about this project before, and as a reminder, the two solar gardens being built will have a whopping 10 MW of capacity, which is the equivalent of 0.056 percent of the installed electricity generating capacity in the state. The batteries will be able to feed 15 MW into the grid at a time and store 30 MWH of electricity, enough for two whole hours! Whoopee! It would be one...
