Tesla’s Solar Roof Costs $85,000, Much Higher Than Previously Advertised

Elon Musk is the greatest snake-oil salesman of our time. Some of his companies, like SpaceX, do incredibly impressive things, but the rest of them are generally flashy underachievers that make enormous promises but fail to deliver. When it seems like reality would start to expose the scam, another flashy announcement is made, or a Roadster is shot into space, and the cycle continues.

According to an article in Investorplace

“Musk overpromises, underdelivers, and has done so thanks some $15 billion in government handouts across Tesla, SpaceX and SolarCity. He is the ultimate crony capitalist.”

The solar roof is just the latest example of the treadmill of overpromise, and underdeliver.

Musk originally claimed the solar roof would cost $21.85 per square foot, but according to EleckTrek they system is actually selling for $35 per square foot. This makes the cost of the system enormous. In fact, a 9.45 kW system on a 1,862 square foot roof,  would cost $64,634 for the solar roof, along with$10,050 for a Powerwall, and another $10,630 for roof and site repairs.

It adds up to a shocking total of $85,314 for the entire solar roof system and work.

Eventually they luster will wear off of Elon Musk enterprises, until then expect more smoke and mirrors.
