The People’s Lawyer has arrived

Based on the flurry of campaign finance activity, it looks like Minnesota will be a highly contested battleground state this fall.

Checking in with recent filings at the state Campaign Finance Board, a couple of names pop out. A committee called the DAGA People’s Lawyer Project registered on April 6. The Project is an offshoot of the Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA). In states where the group has been active in the past, the role of the project appears to be attacking the Republican nominee for AG in that state.

The Minnesota arm of the main DAGA, the DAGA Victory Fund registered, a year ago. The fund currently has cash on hand of $275,000.

Another April filing goes by the name the Movement Voter PAC Minnesota. The listing refers back to the Massachusetts address of the Movement Voter Project. According to its website,

MVP works to strengthen progressive power at all levels of government by helping donors – big and small – support the best and most promising local community-based organizations in key states, with a focus on youth and communities of color.

At the federal level, the Movement Voter PAC was established in 2019. In 2021, the PAC donated $250,000 to Faith in Minnesota, $25,000 to the Land Stewardship Action Fund, and $25,000 to Blueprint Campaigns.

Finally, another April filing is for a new committee, the Democratic Socialist Caucus.

Buckle up!
