12 things for state legislators to do
From time to time I have been accused of only ever offering criticisms of what is wrong with Minnesota’s economy and the state’s economic policy and of failing to offer any suggestions for what I think should be be done to improve things. So, as the legislature shudders into gear in St. Paul, below is a list of 12 things I have suggested that legislators could do to put our state on a better track. This isn’t exhaustive, by any means, but its a start.
Spending and Taxes
State policymakers should:
- Abolish Minnesota’s estate tax
- Abolish the Alternative Minimum Tax for individuals
- Eliminate the marriage tax penalty
- Conform Minnesota to the federal depletion schedule
- Eliminate the Alternative Minimum Tax for corporations
- Enact a Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights (TABOR)
