It’s (in-person) back to school for several large MN school districts

In nine of the state’s 50 largest school districts, the 2020 school year started virtually for Minnesota students, but now in several of those districts, students are physically heading back to school for in-person instruction, reports the Pioneer Press.

Two of those districts—Mounds View and North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale—since have invited some or all of their students back part-time. Osseo Area and St. Louis Park will join them next week with part-time in-person instruction. And Roseville Area and Robbinsdale have plans to start reopening school buildings next month.

That leaves Minneapolis, St Paul, and Bloomington school districts as the three remaining large districts “that have not made significant movement toward in-person instruction,” continues the Pioneer Press.

Hennepin County is cleared for in-person elementary and hybrid middle/high school, but the Minneapolis district chose to start the year using the more restrictive distance learning model, as did the Bloomington school district. St. Paul Public Schools also started school using distance learning, despite Ramsey County cleared for in-person elementary and hybrid middle/high school. SPPS is expected to deliberate today whether to start a hybrid schedule on October 19.
