22nd guilty plea entered in the Feeding Our Future case
As expected, in the federal courthouse in downtown Minneapolis, Kawsar Jama (Defendant No. 54) became Guilty Plea No. 22 in the Feeding Our Future case.
Kawsar, aged 42, was assisted during this afternoon’s proceeding by a Somali language interpreter.
As a result of her plea deal, she faces three years in prison and must pay back the $1.3 million she stole from the free-food programs, money spent on a home, a Tesla, and an Infiniti, among other items.
Her nonprofit company, GEDO Community Services of Burnsville, was incorporated in October 2020. It does not appear to have ever filed a tax return. The company was dissolved by court order in June of this year.
She is the seventh member of the Haji’s Kitchen group of defendants to plead guilty. An eighth member of this group is a fugitive from justice. That leaves only one defendant of the original nine in the group remaining to face trial in the case in November.
Ms. Jama remains free pending sentencing in the case, which has yet to be scheduled. However, the judge today did add some additional conditions to her release.
