A rare state fraud conviction
From Fox-9 TV,
Medicaid provider pleads guilty in ‘phantom’ medical rides scheme.
Fox-9 reports,
Nasro Takhal pleaded guilty Friday to two felony counts of aiding and abetting the theft of Medicaid funding.
Takhal and several others were charged in 2024 after a multi-year investigation by the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.
That fraud control unit is part of the office of the state attorney general. We already reported on this case back in 2024, and the dollar amounts are already baked into our ScandalTracker.
Since this latest conviction came via plea bargain, there is no opportunity for a judge to throw out the result and declare an acquittal.
In announcing the case back in May 2024, the Attorney General’s Office described Nasro Aden Takhal as the ringleader of an eight person group. The AG reported at the time,
Her co-conspirators Fardosa Ali Ibrahim, Bashir Aden Bare, and Warfa Osman Mohomud are also charged with racketeering, identity theft, and aiding and abetting felony theft. Other co-conspirators Omar Abdi Ahmed, Amal Mohamed Budul, Khalif Abdi Madobe, and Bishara Salat Abdirahman are charged with identity theft and aiding and abetting felony theft.
Fox 9 reports that Takhal will be sentenced in October.
