American Experiment will hold a Save Our Sherco! rally in Becker, Saturday, Oct. 8 at 2pm

Center of the American Experiment will be participating in a Save Our Sherco (SOS) town hall rally organized by local residents on Saturday, October 8th, at 2pm at the high school cafeteria in Becker, Minnesota.

American Experiment launched the SOS campaign to persuade Xcel Energy to continue operating one of its coal generators beyond its scheduled closure date next year. This effort is incredibly important because the regional grid operator, the Midcontinent Independent Systems Operator (MISO) is already facing a 1,200-megawatt capacity shortfall, and retiring Sherco 2 would only make this situation worse.

Thus far, we have given away hundreds of Save Our Sherco yard signs, and more than 1,000 people have signed our petition urging Xcel Energy and the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission not to shut down our reliable coal assets when the grid is already struggling to keep up with demand.

The Save Our Sherco rally will feature a special guest speaker, Isaac Orr, an energy and environmental policy expert. Orr is a speaker, researcher, and writer specializing in energy, mining, agriculture, hydraulic fracturing, agricultural, and other environmental policy issues. He is a University of Wisconsin Eau Claire graduate with studies in political science and geology, winning awards for his undergraduate geology research.
