Feeding Our Future: conviction #56 [Corrected]
Abdullahe Nur Jesow entered the 49th guilty plea in the sprawling free-food scandal, becoming the 56th person to be convicted overall.
Jesow pled guilty to one count of money laundering from the original indictment in the case at the federal courthouse in downtown Minneapolis this afternoon.
The U.S. Attorney’s office put out a press release that outlines the case.
Jesow, now aged 65, was Defendant No. 28 in the case (out of 75 overall), one of eight members of the S&S Catering group. With Jesow’s guilty plea, all eight have been convicted in the case, and the courtroom trial that had been scheduled for next month is now cancelled. [Correction: the case of Defendant No. 25, Abdiwahab Ahmed Mohamud, now aged 35, is still unresolved. His solo trial is still a go for that October 14 date. The trial is expected to last for three weeks.]
Jesow succeeded in entering a guilty plea in his second attempt. More than a year ago, he was supposed to enter a guilty plea but showed up late for his court hearing and in no mood to cooperate. The difference a year makes, I guess.
In anticipation of that August 2024 hearing, I had written up a profile of Jesow’s role in the scandal.
His plea agreement includes a sentencing guideline of between 41 to 51 months in prison. As it turned out, he would have been better off taking the original deal.
No sentencing date has been set, as of yet.
