A new chapter

Support Thinking Minnesota to support a freer, more prosperous future.

In June 2015, we celebrated 25 years at Center of the American Experiment by publishing the first issue of Thinking Minnesota magazine. Issue number one was 12 pages long, printed on our Xerox copier, and mailed to a few thousand American Experiment donors and friends. Ten years later, Issue 39 of our quarterly magazine has grown to 56 pages, is printed on a massive web press, and is mailed to 60,000 households, libraries, legislators, and local elected officials.

Thinking Minnesota has become one of the most important communications tools we use to deliver news, commentary, and policy analysis to our growing audience. In other words, Thinking Minnesota, our flagship publication, holds significant value.

To reflect that value, beginning with the Summer 2025 issue, the magazine will be exclusively available to sustaining members of Center of the American Experiment. Instead of charging a subscription price, we are offering this great resource as a benefit to anyone who becomes a sustaining member supporting the ongoing work of American Experiment. Membership begins at just $35 per year, but we are offering readers a one-time membership of just $25 between now and June 1, 2025.

Rest assured, the product isn’t changing. Thinking Minnesota will continue to deliver the same policy expertise, cultural analysis, innovative polls, and insights from state and national leaders.

If you choose to become a sustaining member (by using the enclosed envelope or QR code), there will be no delivery interruption. If you do not become a sustaining member, this will be your final mailed issue of Thinking Minnesota.

For $35 per year ($25 before June 1, 2025), sustaining members will receive exclusive content from Thinking Minnesota delivered to their mailbox each quarter. In the age of digital communications, I still believe in the value of holding a magazine in your hand, setting aside time to consider the ideas and arguments contained within, and, hopefully, passing it on to a friend.

Another important note regarding our transition: All content from Thinking Minnesota will remain free and accessible on our website shortly after each issue hits mailboxes. But to receive this premium content in your mailbox four times a year, you must be a sustaining member.

The success and growth of the magazine tracks closely with our success and growth. Since 2015, American Experiment has become the largest and most influential grassroots organization in Minnesota. Our influence with policymakers is also growing. One recent example is the campaign we conducted this session that forced House Democrats to return to work and elect Republican Lisa Demuth as the permanent Speaker of the House. That outcome was only possible because of the 20,000 emails we facilitated to members of the House.

Changing how we underwrite the magazine will enable us to redirect some of its $450,000 annual cost to support advocacy campaigns and other forms of outreach.

I’ve often said that if it were economically feasible, we would deliver Thinking Minnesota to every mailbox in the state. But we also must wisely steward the resources that our supporters have entrusted to us to maximize the good that we can do.

We appreciate the support of Minnesotans from every walk of life across the state. I hope you continue your support to advance conservative ideas and policies for a better future. We believe Thinking Minnesota has tremendous value. We hope you agree and look forward to your annual sustaining membership of $35 or more.
