‘Minnesota dad’ remains behind bars

Roberto Carlos Munoz-Guatemala, age 39, made a brief (6-minute) court appearance this morning at the Federal Courthouse in downtown St. Paul.

Your correspondent was there. You will recall that Munoz is that illegal immigrant, convicted felony sex offender accused of injuring a federal law enforcement officer while fleeing the FBI on June 17 in Bloomington,

Munoz was fleeing a traffic stop in his Nissan Altima and dragged the officer an estimated 100 yards.

Munoz, a Mexican citizen, required a Spanish-language interpreter for this hearing and did not speak a single word of English.

He was formally arraigned on one count of assault on a federal officer. He entered a not guilty plea but did not contest his continued detention.

He was brought to the courtroom by U.S. Marshals. He was dressed in a jail-issued orange shirt with matching pants. He was escorted out of the courtroom, in handcuffs, by the Marshals.

Munoz will remain in federal custody as he awaits further proceedings.
