New Trades Ambassador program connects students with skilled trades

High school students can now find out about the viable, valuable and fulfilling career paths that the trades and manufacturing industries offer from those they trust: their peers.

The newly launched Trades Ambassador program carefully selects students at participating high schools to serve as Trades Ambassadors and inform their classmates about future career options in skilled technical fields. Interested students can then use the Trades Hub website to access multiple resources and explore numerous career paths within manufacturing, such as being a carpenter, cabinet maker, welder, operating engineer, CNC machinist or automotive technician. From “A Day in the Life” videos to salary details, along with a job board and technical school section, young men and women can match their skills and interests with a career that fits them best.

“Do you like working with your hands, building and fixing things, and solving practical problems? Are you interested in earning money sooner rather than later and avoiding a ton of student debt? Do you want to invest in yourself and develop marketable skills? If so, then consider a career in trades and manufacturing,” states the Trades Hub website.

The labor shortage in skilled trades is expected to explode in Minnesota over the next several years. As Baby Boomers retire, there is a need for young people to fill these important jobs.
