No such thing as bad publicity

Controversial comedian Dave Chappelle adds 4 more shows at the Varsity Theater in Minneapolis after being cancelled by First Avenue hours before his appearance last night.

Chappelle performed his show last night, as scheduled, except the venue was moved to the Varsity. The theater, near the main campus of the University of Minnesota, has announced four more shows on Chappelle’s current run for tonight and tomorrow.

First Avenue is located in downtown Minneapolis, near the city’s basketball and baseball stadia. The Varsity Theater is located 2.5 miles away, on the other side of the Mississippi River. It’s not clear how Chappelle’s show was unsafe at First Avenue, but safe enough for the Varsity, five times over.

Of course, the whole affair made for international news.
