Why is the Minnesota “Conservative” Energy Forum Intentionally Misleading Conservatives on Energy Issues? A Series

From time to time I write about a group called the Minnesota "Conservative" Energy Forum (MNCEF), which attempts to portray themselves as a voice for conservative ideals in energy policy. Honestly, I would love another voice advocating for the removal of subsidies and mandates for all energy sources in Minnesota, and another organization advocating for busting up government-approved monopolies like Xcel Energy and allowing consumers to have the freedom choose their own electricity provider, but unfortunately, MNCEF is not that voice. In reality, MNCEF uses conservative-sounding language to peddle liberal environmental policies, like more renewable energy mandates, to lawmakers who would...

DFL Legislators Want to Halt PolyMet, Urge Governor To Cancel Permits

According to the Star Tribune, eighteen liberal Democratic lawmakers from the Metro area are calling for Governor Tim Walz to suspend all state permits for PolyMet's proposed copper-nickel mine in northern Minnesota. The legislators claim the suspension is needed to make sure that "the permits were not rigged." It's interesting to note that not a single DFL lawmaker from the Iron Range, where the mine would actually be located, signed on to the letter. This makes sense, because no project in Minnesota history has been studied more extensively than the PolyMet project, which has been under regulatory review for more than...

Twin Metals Keeps On Winning, Despite Best Efforts of Urban DFL

Minnesota is home to the world's largest undeveloped deposits of copper, nickel, and platinum group elements, and developing these mineral resources will be a massive boost to the economy of our state. While the PolyMet mine has received the necessary permits from the state, the proposed Twin Metals mine has been the ire of urban liberals and environmentalists who do not want to see the mine developed. Fortunately, according to an article in MinnPost, the Trump administration has other ideas and has taken several concrete steps to support the project. The Obama administration blocked new mineral leases for Twin Metals in 2016,...

Beware of “Conservative” Groups Pushing For Renewable Energy and Carbon Taxes

Every year, millions of dollars are spent propping up astroturf groups that pretend to be conservative that push for decidedly unconservative policies including taxing carbon dioxide emissions and advocating for renewable energy. This happens both on the national level, and in states around the country. According to an article in the Daily Caller: "Wealthy charitable foundations spent $10 million on an effort that included handing money to conservative and libertarian think tanks and grassroots organizations to promote “a stable climate” and “a clean energy future” among other environmental issues, The Daily Caller News Foundation has found." "For example, two foundations that promote liberal energy...
