Teachers, you made it to summer break! Now it’s time to consider your options on union membership.

Teachers, we hope you are having a great summer! If you are currently a dues-paying member of Education Minnesota, you are limited by the union to opting out during a 30-day “September Window” that starts September 1 and ends September 30. The good news is the window was extended. The bad news is the window still exists.

It’s your choice.

If you are a member of the union, you have an important decision to make. You can opt-out or you can choose to remain in the union. If you choose to opt-out, the most effective way to resign from membership is to send a resignation letter during the September Window (Sept. 1-Sept. 30). To assist you in the process, EducatedTeachersMN will help you prepare your letter in advance so you can enjoy the summer and focus on your students in the fall.

Visit the EducatedTeachersMN Opt-Out Now page for more information and to download an opt-out letter you can personalize and send in. Also, if you create your letter in advance, EducatedTeachersMN will remind you by email to send it in during the September Window. If you change your mind, you can hold the letter. It is your choice.

Next steps.

If you make the decision to opt-out, you should mail your resignation letter to Education Minnesota (postmarked by September 30). Then email a copy to your local union and a copy to your school district.

Sign up for the EducatedTeachersMN newsletter for more information and help with the resignation process. EducatedTeachersMN is here to answer any of your questions! Watch your mail for the postcard below or email EducatedTeachersMN at [email protected] for more information.

Remember, union membership is a personal decision. Make the choice that is best for you, your profession, and your students.
