Two former Somali childcare operators sue state for discrimination, defamation
In a case captioned as Mohamed et. al. vs. Walz et. al., two former operators of childcare businesses located in Hennepin County have sued the state of Minnesota in federal court.
The case was filed yesterday, and seeks $46,800,000 in damages for based on discrimination, defamation, and six other counts. The defendants are Gov. Tim Walz, the state of Minnesota, the state Dept. of Human Services (DHS) and other named and unnamed individuals.
The plaintiffs are Abdikadar Mohamed and Fowsiya Mohamed, who each formerly owned separate childcare centers operating in Hennepin County. In the lawsuit (p. 4, item 3), the plaintiffs declare that they are of Somali descent.
From what I can gather from the complaint filed yesterday, the federal lawsuit arises from a state lawsuit that reached the state supreme court.
