Annunciation school shooter identified as transgender former student

Media outlets reported that multiple law enforcement sources have identified the Annunciation school shooter as “Robin M. Westman,” a 23-year-old former student who graduated from 8th grade at Annunciation in 2017.

Westman was born Robert Paul Westman on June 17, 2002. As a 17-year-old in 2020, his parents petitioned the court on his behalf to change his name to Robin. The application to the court stated, “Minor child identifies as a female and wants her name changed to reflect that identification.”

A former Annunciation student I spoke with confirmed that Westman’s mother worked in the parish office and that he attended the school for at least a year, graduating in 2017.

Westman killed at least two Annunciation students and injured at least 17 others in a mass shooting at the school this morning, as the students attended morning mass.

Cedar News, and other X social media sources have posted on the platform a collage of photos reportedly taken from a YouTube “manifesto” posted by Westman, which has since been removed.

One of the photos showed a number of rifle magazines with twisted writing on them such as “For the Children,” and “Kill Donald Trump,” etc. Another depicted a hand-drawn map purportedly of the interior of Annunciation’s church and showed Westman stabbing at the photo. Another was a handwritten note purportedly written and shared by Westman. In it Westman writes, “I was corrupted by this world and have learned to hate what life is.” As with many online sources, these images have not been independently verified.

If the news about Westman and the transgender status is accurate, the shooting adds to a troubling trend, where several recent mass shootings have reportedly involved transgender suspects who have carried out mass killings. One’s struggles with sexuality cannot become justification for horrific violence.

An AI search of these incidents resulted in these documented cases:

At the risk of using sarcasm, where could transgender individuals have learned that violence is justified? Look no further than Minnesota’s Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan and the wildly inappropriate photo of her wearing a t-shirt stating “Protect Trans Kids” with a large knife emblazoned within the phrase — a photo and message which she has refused to denounce.

There’s no time like the present, Lt. Governor.
