Feeding Our Future: June calendar
So much is going on with the Feeding Our Future case in the next two weeks that I had to create a calendar to keep up.
Up next in the free-food scandal:
Thursday, June 12: guilty plea hearing for Ahmed Artan, Defendant No. 8, overall, in the case. This will be Artan’s second attempt at a guilty plea; his first in March 2024 never came to fruition. If it does go ahead, Artan will become the 46th individual convicted in the sprawling scandal. Artan is also requesting permission to travel to Kenya afterwards for the purpose of relocating his children abroad in anticipation of his expected prison sentence.
Monday, June 16: Defendant No. 14, Abdirahman Ahmed, has a hearing in his effort to replace his current lawyer. Ahmed’s trial is scheduled to begin in August.
Tuesday, June 17: A status conference is scheduled in the case involving Defendant No. 64, Suleman Mohamed.
Tuesday, June 17: That same morning, one of the newest defendants, Hibo Daar (No. 71), has a status conference scheduled.
Tuesday, June 17: That afternoon, Defendant No. 13, Ahmed Ghedi, is scheduled to enter a guilty plea. Ghedi is one of the biggest political campaign donors among the defendants, giving donations in the maximum amounts to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, state Sen. Omar Fateh, Mayor Jacob Frey, and city council member Jeremiah Ellison, all Minneapolis Democrats.
Wednesday, June 18: A guilty plea is scheduled to be entered in the related juror bribery case. It is believed that Abdiaziz Farah will plead guilty next week. Farah was convicted at trial in last year’s courtroom trial involving the underlying fraud case.
And that only gets us up to Juneteenth!
